Life is unexpected at times and things don’t work the way you wanted them to. As I sit at a friends house on Saturday night thinking of how the weekend ended up compared to how it was supposed to go I can’t help but smile because of the little things.
This weekend was supposed to be my bachelorette party with friends flying in from Ohio and a small birthday party my fiancé was planning.
But with Hurricane Irma coming, and living on an Island off the coast of Georgia we got evacuated and are still evacuated from our home. It was disappointing, but things could have been so much worse.
I am thankful it does not look like we will get much damage, but praying for those who ended up being unprepared due to the weather shift.
Even though it ruined our weekend plans, I realized sometimes an unexpected change in plans is exactly what you need in life. Fortunately we left Thursday night, and got a hotel room in Asheville to spend the next two days. And below is our weekend Asheville travel guide.
We were excited to get to enjoy a place that has become so special to us this year. We woke up Friday morning and I started my day off with some yoga in the hotel room.
It wasn’t what I expected in the slightest, with dogs licking my face from time to time, but it was perfect in itself.
We took the dogs for a walk and then got ready for breakfast at Biscuit Head. We had to wait in line but the weather was so perfect I wasn’t disappointed at all. We got pretty much the same meals as last time we visited Biscuit Head after we got engaged in March.
The jam selection is my favorite, and where else can you get a gluten free biscuit?
Next we headed back to the hotel to check on the dogs before heading out to walk around the shops in downtown Asheville.
We had a blast and even ended up buying some camping essentials for our hiking and mountain trip coming up in a month.
We came back to the hotel and I took a nap with the dogs before we headed out to grab an early dinner at Farm Burger. We both got burgers, I got a lettuce wrap and Randy got a regular and we split the fresh cut fries.
Although it wasn’t the best meal, it was good enough and very reasonable on prices. We took a quick trip to the mall, then to Limones to grab a couple drinks before heading back to the hotel to get some sleep.
It was not what I had planned for my birthday, but it ended up being even better than I could imagine. For the first time in at least 6 months, we both felt relaxed, like there was nothing waiting for us. And I wouldn’t have traded that for anything.
We headed back to Georgia seeing the Hurricane wasn’t going to hit Savannah as more than a tropical storm, and you know we had to stop to hike some on the way back.
Although we were so lucky that the path of Hurricane Irma changed, we are so praying for those who did get hit by the hurricane.
