Since this weekend I decided to step away from social media, taking pictures and honestly didn’t do a whole lot of picture worthy or rather worthy of telling you guys about unless you enjoy hearing about cleaning, laundry and food making. So today I wanted to tell you about a decision I made over the last couple weeks, to participate in the Whole 30 for the month of Feb (and 1st of March).
The Whole 30 Challenge. Created by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig, for the purpose of restoring your body, removing emotional and harmful habits of what you put in your mouth. Learning to fuel your body the correct way again. So the challenge in a few words are cutting out sugars/sweeteners, grains including oats, rice, buckwheat, etc., alcohol, dairy products (aside from clarified butter and ghee), and legumes including beans, lentils, peanut butters, and soy products.
People choose to take on the challenge for many reasons, some to lose weight, some to see if it helps some sort of illness, rash, swelling in the body or digestive issue, and others just to join in on the challenge. Some other bloggers who recently did this and have reviews you can check out are Allie at Running on Peanut Butter and Jen at Peanut Butter Runner.
I wanted to talk about the reasons why I am choosing to do the Whole30, not just for you guys but also for myself! I know watching someone document a journey can be helpful to others to decide if it’s right for you or not! So here we go!
- Digestive issues: I have had some pretty bad digestive problems over the past 5 or 6 years. It would be nice if this solved the problem, but I don’t really expect that, just more of a break for my stomach!
- Break the sugar habit: I would be lying if I said I watch my intake of artificial sweeteners. From sugar free products to sweet drops to sugar free coffee syrups, I have come to use this stuff a lot. I think a detox of these things would be great for my body and also help break the habit.
- Switching up my meals: I am the definition of a creative of habit. I could live off of protein waffles, potatoes and eggs if you told me to. I feel like the Whole 30 will give me an excuse to eat different food! I am excited to see where it takes me.
And those are my main reasons! I’m excited to fill you guys in on my journey as well! So stay tuned!
